For real mountaineering enthusiasts, this expedition style trek follows one of Nepal’s most challenging routes. The journey begins in Rolwaling Valley – under the towering Gauri Shankar near the Tibetan border – one of Nepal’s famous “hidden valleys” inhabited by isolated groups of Tamang and Sherpa. If we are up for the challenge, the ascent to the summit of Parchamo Peak at 6273 meters awaits us. We’ll cross the TashiLapcha Pass at 5700 meters, which separates the Rolwaling and Khumbu regions, and descend through the Khumbu valley to Namche Bazaar. This is a strenuous journey that should be undertaken by those with high-altitude trekking experience. Temperatures as low as -20 degrees can be expected at higher altitudes, and technical climbing equipment must be carried if the summit of Parchamo Peak is attempted.

Itinerary

You will be greeted at the airport by a representative from Outdoor Expeditions and transported to your hotel. Unwind from your flight and meet us in the evening for a welcome dinner at a traditional Nepalese restaurant.
Relax for the afternoon and enjoy a guided tour of Kathmandu’s unique attractions. We’ll spend the day exploring several of the city’s most famous cultural landmarks like the sacred Hindu pilgrimage site Pashupatinath on the banks of the Bagmati, Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), and Bouddhanath, Nepal’s largest and most revered Buddhist stupa. In the evening we’ll meet with your trekking guide and team members for a trip briefing and preparations for the journey.
Traveling on the Friendship Highway, which connects Kathmandu to Lhasa, we head toward Jiri to our trailhead at Shigati. Our trek begins with a short hike to SuriDoban.
Our journey begins on a trail through dense forests of rhododendron and orchids to Jagat.
Several ups and downs along the banks of the RolwalingKhola take us through a narrow valley to a suspension bridge across which a steep climb takes us to the hillside village of Simigaun.
The sun rises over the majestic Gaurishankar this morning as we ascend a forested ridgeline above the Rolwaling Valley. A gradual descent to the river banks takes us Kharka.
Views of Gaurishankar continue to impress us as we follow the RolwalingKhola, arriving at a tributary from which we ascend to an open plain where the Sherpa village of Beding is located.
A pastoral scene unfolds around Beding where fields of buckwheat and barley are punctuated by grazing mountain yaks. To our left, a stunning ridgeline formed by Bamango, Cheking, and Konyklemo stands to be admired. Passing an impressive monastery, we reach our overnight stop at Na.
Crossing an expansive plain we ascend to the glacial waters of TsoRolpa Lake. Beneath the soaring peak of Menlung, we encounter our first glimpse of the Trakarding Glacier. We arrive for the night in TsoRolpa.
An amazing day of exploration awaits around the rocky moraine of Trakarding Glacier. Otherworldly rock and ice formations surround us in a landscape of fascinating variety.
Following a high trail above Trakarding Glacier, we descend across an expanse of ice and rock for an amazing 360 degree panoramic view at the base of Drolambau glacier.
The epic crossing of TashiLapcha pass will leave you breathless, with jaw dropping high mountain scenery along the way. Following a path cut beneath a massive rock overhang, we reach our camping spot in time for an unbelievable sunset.
Ascending snow covered slopes to a ridgeline above TashiLapcha, we reach the summit of Parchermo. Amazing views from the summit reward us including a vast expanse of the Khumbu region. A vigorous descent will bring us to Thengpo for the night.
This extra day is included to ensure a successful summit of Pachermoincase of unfavorable weather conditions. We’ll take care to ensure our team members are properly acclimatized for the ascent.
An easy descent to Thame will reward us with spectacular views of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, AmaDablam, KusumKangari, and Thamserku. Also visit an ancient monastery above Thame.
The day begins with a gradual descent and then becomes steep before a bridge crossing over the DudhKoshi to PhunkiTenga. A verdant green change of scenery unfolds on our journey to Namche Bazaar.
The final descent to Lukla is steep and rocky, but the oxygen-rich air will bring great comfort. Descending into the lush jungles against the roar of the DudhKoshi below, we’ll leave the Himalayan giants behind us and stop for our final rest in Lukla.
A morning flight will bring us back to Kathmandu. You’ll be escorted from Tribhuvan airport to your hotel. Enjoy the sights and sounds of bustling Thamel for the evening and reminisce upon an amazing journey.
Take care of any last minute shopping or sightseeing as time permits. You’ll be picked up at your hotel three hours prior to your departure flight. Thanks for traveling with Outdoor Expeditions. Farewell and Namaste.
