Trip Overview
-
Destination Everest Region,
-
Duration 59 Days
-
Altitude 8463m
Between Everest and Kanchenjunga, along the Nepal-Tibetan border lies the pyramid shaped Mt. Makalu, the world’s fifth tallest mountain. Having seen less than 300 successful summits, Makalu is a mountain to be respected, as its technical challenges and remoteness have proven to discourage all but the most seasoned climbers. Beginning in Tumlingtar, our trail will pass through a remote section of the Makalu Barun National Park, gradually ascending through pristine rhododendron forests into boulder fields and glacial moraine. We will attempt the summit via the North Western ridge, establishing our base camp at the foot of the Chago glacier and ascending along snow slopes and challenging technical sections. We will use five additional camps while attempting the summit, the final camp being at 7600 meters.
