Lying only 3 kilometers south of Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse’s is the world’s fourth tallest peak at 8516 meters. Lhotse is actually part of the Everest massif, being separated from Mt. Everest by its south Col. Lhotse is a formidable mountain with several unclimbed faces. The ascent to Lhotse’s summit is highly technical and challenging and prior experience at high altitudes is a necessity. After establishing our first base camp at the base of the Khumbu glacier, we negotiate the spectacular Khumbu ice-fall – a labyrinthine wall of ancient ice pillars and crevasses. Approaching Lhotse’s west face, we’ll negotiate an awesome landscape of ice walls and gaping crevasses we must traverse using ladders. Each progressive leg of this journey will come as a new challenge as we ascend to the narrow and steep Lhotse Couloir from which the summit can be reached.
