Trip Overview
-
Destination Nepal, Dolpo Region,
-
Duration 20 Days
-
Altitude 4620m
Wild and remote, the beautiful Limi valley lies deep within the Humla region on the Tibetan border. This is a journey across picturesque landscapes of jungles, rivers, and mountain meadows, into a land that seems to have been forgotten by time. Follow the ancient salt trading routes near the Chinese border, ascending to the Nara La pass at 5000 meters, into Limi valley, populated by only three major settlements and a host of rare species like the snow leopard, musk deer, blue sheep, and Himalayan thar. This is an arduous journey, not for those who aren’t up for a challenge, but the rewards are great – experiencing the remoteness and unique cultures and landscapes of this region is truly a once in a lifetime experience. Rare glimpses of the mountain ranges of far western Nepal will appear along the journey, including Mt. Saipal, Api, and the holy Mt. Kailash. This camping style trek will take you into an area of Nepal where few have ventured before.

Trip Notes
The trek to Limi valley is an arduous journey meant for serious trekkers who are in good physical conditioning. Expect many climbs and descents and 6 – 8 hours of walking daily on varying terrain. Two passes will be made that exceed 4500 meters at Nara La and Nyalu La. Our ascent to these passes will be gradual enough to provide adequate time for acclimatizing, and additional rest days will not be necessary. Best seasons to do this trek are Autumn (Aug – Nov) and Spring (March – May). Snowfall and excessive cold may discourage trekkers during the winter months, and heavy rains can be expected during the monsoon (Jun – mid August).
